Woman indicted following dog attack
Nov. 1—GREENSBURG — A Decatur County grand jury has indicted a Greensburg woman following an investigation into an incident earlier this year that reportedly involved a dog attacking and seriously injuring an infant that was in the woman's temporary care.
A Report to the Court filed Oct. 24 in Decatur County Superior Court states that on June 9, 2024, Makayla Walters "having the care of a dependent assumed voluntarily, did knowingly or intentionally place the dependent in a situation that endangered the dependent's life or health, resulting in catastrophic injury to (the) dependent who was less than 14 years of age."
Decatur County Prosecutor Nate Harter, when contacted by the Daily News, said, "There's not much I can say at this time beyond providing you with the official documents, which show that a grand jury did indict Ms. Walters for Level 1 Felony Neglect of a Dependent Resulting in Catastrophic Injury, which charge is now pending in Superior Court. Ms. Walters remains presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt."
Preliminary information is that Walters is 24 years old and that the child involved is an infant less than a year old, but we were not able to confirm either at the time of this writing.
No additional information about this matter was available at press time.
