A 15-year-old is in critical condition after their bicycle was struck by a motor vehicle Saturday evening in Auburn.

The victim was traveling northbound on Washington Street when they were struck by a car traveling westbound on Perrine Street at about 7:15 p.m., Auburn Police Chief James Slayton told The Citizen.

The vehicle had come to a stop at the intersection of the streets, Slayton said, before striking the bicycle. The 15-year-old was wearing headphones and rode in front of the car, he continued.

The rider was taken by helicopter to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where they remain in critical condition today, Slayton said.

The driver was not injured, he continued, and no tickets were issued.
