19-year-old injured after shooting in Marianna, AR

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A 19-year-old was injured during a shooting Thursday afternoon in Marianna, Arkansas, according to police.

Marianna Police say they were called to the 200 block of Olive Street around 3 p.m. regarding a shooting. When they arrived a male was found suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers say they immediately began performing life-saving measures on the victim before he was taken to Regional One Hospital for treatment.

At this time, police say the victim's condition is unknown.

According to preliminary information, this was an isolated incident and does not pose an ongoing risk to public safety. But, this is still an ongoing investigation.

Police Chief Rodney Perry released the following statement,

"While the investigation is ongoing, we cannot stress enough the importance of responsible firearm handling. Guns are not toys, and playing with a firearm, or handling it carelessly, can lead to life-changing consequences. Firearms should always be treated with respect, securely stored, and kept out of reach of children or anyone who is not properly trained in their safe use."
