1 arrested after bypassing vehicle checkpoint at Trump rally

WALKER, Mich. (WOOD) — One person was arrested after they bypassed a vehicle checkpoint at former President Donald Trump's campaign rally on Friday in Walker.

The United States Secret Service told News 8 that the person was arrested by the Walker Police Department.

The Walker Police Department said that the person was outside the rally at FALK Production in Walker on Friday and drove around a checkpoint, ignoring police orders. A short police chase followed before the person pulled into a neighboring business parking lot and was taken into custody.

A comment about a possible explosive device was made but officers didn't locate one, the police department said.

They are expected to be arraigned on Monday. The police department said the Kent County Prosecutor's Office authorized the following charges: one count of a false report or threat of terrorism, one count of explosives-possession of bombs with unlawful intent, one count of fleeing a police officer — third-degree and one count of resulting/resisting/obstructing a police officer.

"We are grateful for their support as we collectively work to safeguard the former President," the Secret Service said in a statement.
