Brandon Thompson convicted of murdering Kamil Milczarczyk

A man who stabbed another man to death in a "senseless" attack has been convicted of murder.

Kamil Milczarczyk, 24, was on a night out in Hull city centre on 24 March 2023 when Brandon Thompson, 22, stabbed him in the chest following a large altercation on Princes Dock Street, Humberside Police said.

Thompson, of Clanthorpe, Hull, denied murder and possession of an offensive weapon but was found guilty by a jury who reached an unanimous verdict on Thursday. He previously admitted violent disorder and is due to be sentenced next month.

Ten other men were acquitted of manslaughter but pleaded guilty to violent disorder.

After the hearing, Mr Milczarczyk's family paid tribute to "an amazing uncle who had a huge heart" and said his death "changed our lives forever", leaving them with "heartache and loss".

Detectives said earlier in the evening there had been an "accidental bump of shoulders" in a bar.

Thompson and other offenders headed into the city centre to seek out the individuals concerned.

Mr Milczarczyk had not been present at the bar but was enjoying a night out with his friends when he was attacked, police said. He was found lying in the street just before 23:30 GMT.

He was taken to hospital where he later died.

Det Ch Insp Nicole Elliott said Mr Milczarczyk was "viciously attacked in a senseless act and left fighting for his life as the group ran away".

Following the stabbing, the suspects were caught on CCTV fleeing from the scene with some entering a property in Grimston Street before leaving in a number of vehicles.

Det Ch Insp Elliott said CCTV captured Thompson with a knife in his hand during the attack and later throwing it into the water surrounding Princes Quay shopping centre.

The weapon was recovered.

Following Thompson's conviction, Mr Milczarczyk's family said: "No one deserves to die like this, alone, in such pain and suffering, and we will never be able to comprehend why anyone would carry out such a horrific attack against him.

"Kamil was so young with his whole life ahead of him. He always had time for people and had a huge heart. He would do anything for his family, he was an amazing uncle and leaves behind his niece and nephews who miss him dearly."

They said no verdict would "ever give a sense of justice being served".
