Cornell Brown travelled from Tennesse to kill Texakana man, found guilty of capital murder

TEXARKANA, Ark. (KSLA) - Cornell Brown was found guilty after detectives revealed that he traveled to Texarkana with the sole purpose of killing McFadden.

On Nov. 4, a jury found Cornell Brown guilty of capital murder and sentenced him to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the shooting death of Keith McFadden in 2021.

The incident occurred on Sept. 20, 2021, officers with the Texarkana Arkansas Police Department (TAPD) responded to a call of a shooting in the area of East 11th Street and California. Upon arrival, officers found Keith McFadden suffering from gunshot wounds. Citizens, officers, and LifeNet EMS tried life-saving measures but McFadden died from his injuries.

TAPD began an investigation into the shooting and a suspect was identified, Cornell Brown, 33. Evidence was compiled against Brown and it was determined that he had from Memphis, Tennessee to Texarkana for the sole purpose of killing McFadden.

A warrant was secured for Brown and he was arrested in Oct. 2021 in Tennessee, where he was later expedited to Texarkana, Arkansas.

"The Texarkana, Arkansas Police Department would like to extend our gratitude to the Miller County Prosecutor's Office for their outstanding work in the successful prosecution of Cornell Brown. We also thank those citizens who were selected to serve as a juror in this trial. We know that serving on a trial of this nature can be very stressful and we appreciate the dedication to the pursuit of justice these jurors showed by their service," says TAPD.
