Detroit first responders honored in annual 'Above and Beyond Awards'

DETROIT (FOX 2) - Dozens of first responders were recognized at Ford Field on Wednesday during the 12th annual Above & Beyond Awards Ceremony.

Event organizers say the Public Safety Distinguished Service award was an opportunity for the community to nominate individuals within Detroit Police and Fire who go above and beyond for distinguished service to the community.

An eagled-eyed husband and wife were sailing in Hawaii when they spotted mysterious objects in the distance. Camila and Ryan Sullivan found five scuba divers drifting at sea. A judge recused himself Tuesday from presiding over Arizona's fake electors case after an email surfaced in which he told fellow judges to speak out against attacks on Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign for the presidency. In the Aug. 29 email, Maricopa County Judge Bruce Cohen lamented that he didn't speak out when Harris was called a "DEI hire," believes that white men must speak out against unfair treatment of women, and raised a historical lesson from the Holocaust about the need to speak up when people are attacked. Cohen didn't specify who made the comment regarding Harris.

Parents of the University of Idaho victims are speaking out on the two-year mark of the gruesome quadruple homicide as they await the trial for their children's suspected killer. For victim Kaylee Goncalves' parents, one of the devastating milestones this year is Kaylee's younger sister, Autumn, turning 21 - the age Kaylee was when she was killed. "Early on, [Autumn] just said, 'What am I going to do when I'm older than Kaylee?'" Kristi Goncalves recalled.

It's shocking video of an elderly man being throw to the ground and handcuffed during a traffic stop. Video of the exchange between the officer and driver involved in the traffic sop was released by police. The Oklahoma City Police Department has since put the officer on administrative leave pending an internal investigation into what happened saying in a statement "there was a use of force." An arrest report gives more details about what occurred before a man was shot to death Wednesday in the 3200 block of West Edgewood Avenue. Investigators observed surveillance video that showed the victim driving an orange Chevrolet Camaro with orange rims at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and New Kings Road, according to the JSO arrest report for Lavertis Reed, 20, who was charged with murder in the shooting. As the victim's vehicle crossed the intersection, a white vehicle with dark rims was observed on the surveillance video driving south at a high rate of speed on New Kings Road, the arrest report states.
