El Paso school district celebrates highest number of Purple Stars in county
The El Paso school district earned 58 Purple Stars for the 2024-2025 school year, the most of all school districts in the county.
The Texas Education Agency revealed Monday that the El Paso Independent School District earned 58 new Purple Star Campus Designations, an award that schools can win by demonstrating their support for military-connected students and their families.
How do schools earn their Purple Stars? According to the EPISD, to receive a Purple Star campus designation, schools need to meet criteria, which include "appointing a campus-based military liaison, maintaining a dedicated and easily accessible military support webpage, implementing a campus transition program, and supporting military family assistance initiative" programs that help provide resources to military-connected students regardless of where they come from or despite how frequent they move.

In a written statement, EPISD Superintendent Diana Sayavedra said,
We take immense pride in having the highest number of Purple Star campuses and being the only district with schools located on a military base. The military families in El Paso are a vital part of our community, and being able to serve them fills us all with pride. My aspiration is for us to excel in every aspect, and it is a true honor to lead El Paso County in supporting the families who serve our nation. I am deeply thankful to every EPISD teacher and staff member whose hard work and dedication have helped us reach this significant milestone.EPISD also said it's honored to operate six schools in Fort Bliss and proud to serve over 8,000 military-connected students across the district.
With these 58 Purple Stars, EPISD has a total of 68, which makes it the school district with the most in the county and second most in all of Texas.
