Saturday Night Live is back for season 50!

The legendary NBC sketch show returns for the monumental new season on Sept. 28, with an already stacked roster of hosts and musical guests, including SNL first-timers like Jean Smart and Chappell Roan , as well as returning faves like John Mulaney and Ariana Grande .

The show will look a little different this season following the departures of cast members Punkie Johnson , Molly Kearney , and Chloe Troast , and the addition of new featured players Ashley Padilla, Emil Wakim, and Jane Wickline . Meanwhile, Marcello Hernandez, Michael Longfellow, and Devon Walker were all promoted to the main cast for season 50.

Other cast members expected to return include Mikey Day , Andrew Dismukes , Chloe Fineman , Heidi Gardner , James Austin Johnson , Ego Nwodim , Sarah Sherman , Kenan Thompson , Bowen Yang , and "Weekend Update" co-anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost .

Coinciding with the 50th season, Jason Reitman 's Saturday Night film about the moments leading up to SNL's season 1 premiere, is playing in Los Angeles, New York City, and Toronto, followed by a limited release on Oct. 4, and its wide release on Oct. 11.
