Fire engine, pickup truck collide in Terre Haute

One person was taken to the hospital for treatment after a collision between a pickup truck and a fire engine shortly after 10 a.m. near Kings Court and Margaret Avenue in Terre Haute, according to the city fire department.

Members of the fire department also went to the hospital to be evaluated.

All individuals are expected to recover from injuries sustained, police said.

Terre Haute Fire Department Engine No. 2 was responding to an emergency call with lights and sirens activated when a pickup truck collided with the fire engine, the fire department said.

Members of THFD engine crew were wearing safety restraints.

A person in the pickup truck had to be extricated by the crew of Engine 2. That person was taken to Union Hospital by THFD medics with no life threatening injuries, the fire department said.

Members of the THFD were transported to Union for evaluation.

The Terre Haute Police Department is investigating.

The THPD issued these reminders for motorists to help emergency personnel respond quickly and safely.

When you see emergency vehicles approaching with lights and sirens, please follow these steps to ensure everyone's safety:

* Stay Alert – Turn off distractions like your phone or loud music.

* Move Right and Stop – Safely pull over to the right side of the road and come to a full stop until the emergency vehicle passes.

* Do Not Block Intersections – If approaching an intersection, stop before entering and allow the emergency vehicle to pass.

* Stay Clear and Resume Slowly – Once the vehicle has passed and it's safe, cautiously return to traffic.
