Fire in south Las Vegas valley apartment leaves 1 dead
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A vacant single-story apartment in the south Las Vegas valley was engulfed in flames on Saturday, resulting in one person's death, according to the Clark County Fire Department.
Around 3 a.m., the Clark County Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in a single-story multifamily apartment building near south Las Vegas Boulevard and east Serene Avenue.
The fire chief said when crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames coming from several units. Because the conditions were difficult, the Incident Commander called for a second alarm to bring in more resources to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
Once conditions improved, the fire crews switched to an offensive strategy, moving hoses to the source of the fire and successfully extinguishing it, the fire chief said.
The fire chief reported that one person was found dead. No residents were displaced or needed shelter.
The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the death are still under investigation, and the case is ongoing.
