Fires in Shandon, San Miguel contained by firefighters Friday
– Firefighters from Cal Fire San Luis Unit and the San Luis Obispo County Fire Department contained two wildland fires within the past 24 hours in the Shandon and San Miguel areas, according to Cal Fire SLO.
The first fire was reported near the 1900 block of West Highway 46 in Shandon. Crews responded and contained the half-acre fire while working along the westbound #2 lane of the highway. Cal Fire advised drivers to proceed with caution due to firefighting activity on the roadway. Firefighters remained on the scene for about 10 minutes after containment. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Later, at 1:12 a.m., crews responded to a second wildland fire near the 6000 block of Von Dollen Road in rural San Miguel. Firefighters contained the fire to 0.3 acres by 2:09 a.m. The cause of this fire is also under investigation.
