Former track coach charged with indecent liberties with a student

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said detectives arrested and charged Matthew Elliott, 39, a former high school track coach, on Wednesday with two counts of indecent liberties with a student.

Suspect physically, sexually assaulted victim in south Charlotte

On Friday, an adult victim reported to police that she had been in an inappropriate relationship with her former cross-country coach while enrolled at a local private high school. CMPD did not disclose which school in its news release.

The victim said that the coach was Elliot, CMPD said.

CMPD's Sexual Assault Unit took over the case.

The victim said Elliot started to flirt with her and made numerous advances and that they had an inappropriate relationship.

There was enough probable cause to issue arrest warrants.

On Wednesday, detectives arrested Elliot at his home without incident and he was charged with the offenses, CMPD said.

The Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office has him in custody.

A judge recused himself Tuesday from presiding over Arizona's fake electors case after an email surfaced in which he told fellow judges to speak out against attacks on Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign for the presidency. In the Aug. 29 email, Maricopa County Judge Bruce Cohen lamented that he didn't speak out when Harris was called a "DEI hire," believes that white men must speak out against unfair treatment of women, and raised a historical lesson from the Holocaust about the need to speak up when people are attacked. Cohen didn't specify who made the comment regarding Harris.

These police officers knew something was wrong before the 911 call came through. Officers from the London Ohio Police Division spotted a child walking alone. As they turned around to follow him, an emergency call came over the radio saying a 5-year-old boy with autism had gone missing. He was floating on his back in creek waters that were 3-feet deep when the officers found him. According to authorities, the boy was taken to a hospital for observation and released.
