Haynes, Elko girls top Run the Rubies

LAMOILLE — In its home meet, the Elko cross country programs ran to success.

On Friday, during the Run the Rubies Invitational, in Lamoille Canyon — the course beginning at the large turnoff just beyond the Camp Lamoille turn and ending over the bridge at the Powerhouse Picnic area — Elko senior Lilianna Haynes and the Lady Indians legged their ways to a clean sweep of the individual and team titles.

Elko's girls took first place in the team standings with 30 points, besting North Valleys' mark of 47 by 17 points.

Fallon ranked third with 86 points, and West Wendover rounded out the four-team field with 132 points.

Individually, Haynes won the girls race with a time of 17:58.13 — leading the second-place 18:12.17 from North Valleys senior Taylor Dickey by more than 14 seconds.

Elko freshman Avery Sholty crossed third in 18:27.08, North Valleys senior Jazzmine Reynolds ran a 19:13.49 in fourth and the Lady Indians capped the top-five with a time of 19:52.40 for freshman Allyson Ortiz.

Freshman Justice League finished seventh overall and crossed fourth for Elko with a time of 20:45.06, and sophomore Reegan Burden closed out the team scoring for the Lady Indians with a 22:29.59 in 14th place.

Carlin junior Jaden Loftin took 15th with a time of 22:30.26, and West Wendover sophomore Keyla Escareno followed at 16th in 22:43.92.

Elko sophomore Natalie Boster closed out the top-20 with a time of 23:52.33.

The Lady Wolverines went back-to-back in 25th and 26th with times of 25:06.84 and 25:48.47, respectively, by senior Alicia Dominguez and sophomore Alexis Miramontes.

In 28th, Elko freshman Jamie Wilson posted a time of 27:46.02.

Local runners finished consecutively six times at the end of the 35-girl field.

West Wendover sophomore Karina Perez ran 30th in 28:21.64, and Carlin crossed in order at 31st and 32nd with receptive times of 29:39.65 by junior Kayona Christensen and 30:38.47 for senior Theralyn Flores.

The Lady Indians pushed two straight across the line in 33rd and 34th; sophomore Alyson Gordon running a 30:48.61 and sophomore Makenzie McShane finishing in 30:57.41.

At 35th, West Wendover freshman Noemi York tallied a time of 33:20.83 and capped the field.

Boys Results

In the boys division — the first race of the meet — Elko ranked second in the team standings with 52 points and trailed only the 31 set by champion Wooster.

North Valleys placed third with 84 points, Fallon followed closely with an 85 for fourth place and West Wendover's boys closed out the five-team field with a score of 146.

Individually, Wooster sophomore Carson Boyer ran to victory with a time of 15:30.43.

Elko junior Octaviann Cordova crossed in 15:39.29.

Wooster senior Atticus Reyher ran third in 15:42.31, and North Valleys pushed two in a row over the line — closing out the top-five — junior Carson Key posting a 16:02.18 and junior Nathanyurem Perez tallying a 16:04.12.

For the Indians, senior Dexter Wallace closed his run in 16:19.41 for seventh place.

Senior Angel Trujillo led West Wendover with a ninth-place 16:39.66.

Elko senior Sergio Lopez took 12th with a time of 17:33.28, senior teammate Jairo Ortiz followed in 14th place with a time of 17:44.50 and junior teammate Draykan Spackman notched an 18:31.84 in 17th.

Local athletes crossed the line consecutively from 21st through 23rd.

Elko freshman Kaleb Smith tallied an 18:52.03, Carlin freshman Thomas Loftin booked an 18:54.02 and the Railroaders gained an 18:57.18 from junior Winston Ludwig.

With respective times of 19:22.66 and 19:302., Elko freshman Ansel Humecky and West Wendover freshman Jayden Rodriguez went back-to-back in 26th and 27th.

The Wolverines and the Indians swapped orders of finish in 30th and 31st, as West Wendover junior Fabian Collazo and Elko freshman Hartman Goulding finished their races in 20:13.48 and 20:14.65, respectively.

Elko sophomore Daniel Salazar ran 33rd with a time of 20:31.09, junior teammate Jonathan Grange crossed in 21:15.28 for 37th place and West Wendover sophomore Aiden Benitez followed in 38th with a time of 21:20.15.

The Wolverines crossed three in a row from 42nd through 44th: junior William McNeill running a 23:46.84, junior Oscar Chaves posting a 24:04.62 and senior Angel Talamantes recording a 24:12.28.

Carlin freshman Wyatt Kamensky finished in 24:37.15 for 45th, and Elko senior Cooper Uhlig followed in 24:56.91 at 47th place.

West Wendover junior Sam Flores rounded out the top-50 with a time of 26:28.88, and sophomore teammate Cannon Carter followed in 51st with a time of 27:06.12.

Elko will compete Friday and Saturday during the Bob Firman Invitational, at Eagle Island State Park, in Boise, Idaho.

West Wendover and Carlin will run on Oct. 11, in the Wells Invitational, at Chimney Rock Golf Course.
