Heieie, Miner haul Spartans to 10-0 win

SPRING CREEK — For a soccer player to post a haul is a remarkable feat, doing so twice is impressive.

On Saturday, the Spring Creek boys soccer team beat down Dayton in a 10-0 shutout — the Spartans gaining four goals and an assist apiece from both junior Hunter Heieie and senior Justin Miner.

Miner sent Spring Creek to the front for good in the third minute after a long carry down the field and a line drive into the frame.

In the 11th minute, he created for Heieie — the Spartans working a wall pass for a score on the right wing.

Heieie tallied his second goal in as many minutes in the 12th, opening a 3-0 advantage with a perfect long ball from beyond midfield by freshman Cooper McGinnis.

The Spartans jumped to a 4-0 lead in the 23rd minute as Heieie notched a hat trick, scoring on a diagonal pass from the middle to the right edge by sophomore Cole Montgomery.

Heieie punctuated his haul in the first half, surging Spring Creek to a 5-0 lead in front of an open net — Dayton's keeper coming forward to stop an attack.

Just a minute later, Miner stuck his second shot into the frame — also scoring with the goalie out — and pushed the advantage to 6-0 in the 34th minute.

Spring Creek scored quickly after the break, Miner needing just a minute to card his hat trick — set up on the play with a throw-in on the left side by junior Tyler Hope.

In the 52nd minute, Hope collected a loose ball after about four rebounds and booted in his follow-up shot for an 8-0 lead — opening a mercy-rule margin.

The gap reached 9-0 in the 57th as senior Odin Hipwell — who is generally a defender — struck a sweet cross from the left wing to the opposite-right post.

Fittingly, the combination of Miner and Heieie capped the dominant performance in the 58th minute — Heieie assisting Miner for his haul.

Spring Creek slammed the door with a 10-0 shutout victory due to the mercy rule after 60 minutes of play.

Of Spring Creek's 10 goals, six were assisted.

Versus Fernley

On Friday, the Spartans trailed Fernley 1-0 at the break.

But, Spring Creek asserted itself on both sides of the field in the second half — pitching a shutout defensively and rattling off three-consecutive goals in a 3-1 win over the Vaqueros.

In the victory, senior Norman House, Heieie and Montgomery scored one goal apiece in a balanced effort.

Distributing the ball, Miner assisted two goals and sophomore Kasyn Freyensee dished one dime.

Between the posts, senior goalie Brady Smith gave up one goal and notched six saves.
