Henderson Co. resource fair focused on recovery post-Helene

(WSPA) — A resource fair for people recovering from Hurricane Helene is coming to Hendersonville.

The fair will take place at the Henderson County Disaster Recovery Center on Friday and Saturday from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.

According to Hendersonville officials, representatives from county departments and non-profits will be at the fair and that the event is open to everyone.

Attendees can get FEMA application assistance, free flu shots, disaster unemployment registration assistance, home repair help and more.

If you can't attend this weekend, another fair is scheduled for November 22-23, from 1 p.m. – 6 p.m., at 2111 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, NC.

A judge recused himself Tuesday from presiding over Arizona's fake electors case after an email surfaced in which he told fellow judges to speak out against attacks on Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign for the presidency. In the Aug. 29 email, Maricopa County Judge Bruce Cohen lamented that he didn't speak out when Harris was called a "DEI hire," believes that white men must speak out against unfair treatment of women, and raised a historical lesson from the Holocaust about the need to speak up when people are attacked. Cohen didn't specify who made the comment regarding Harris.

Parents of the University of Idaho victims are speaking out on the two-year mark of the gruesome quadruple homicide as they await the trial for their children's suspected killer. For victim Kaylee Goncalves' parents, one of the devastating milestones this year is Kaylee's younger sister, Autumn, turning 21 - the age Kaylee was when she was killed. "Early on, [Autumn] just said, 'What am I going to do when I'm older than Kaylee?'" Kristi Goncalves recalled.

An arrest report gives more details about what occurred before a man was shot to death Wednesday in the 3200 block of West Edgewood Avenue. Investigators observed surveillance video that showed the victim driving an orange Chevrolet Camaro with orange rims at the intersection of Edgewood Avenue and New Kings Road, according to the JSO arrest report for Lavertis Reed, 20, who was charged with murder in the shooting. As the victim's vehicle crossed the intersection, a white vehicle with dark rims was observed on the surveillance video driving south at a high rate of speed on New Kings Road, the arrest report states.
