5K Ruck March For Them raises awareness for veteran suicide

WAVERLY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Tioga County Veterans' Service Agency is honoring veterans who have lost their life to suicide with an annual 5K event.

The Tioga County Veterans' Service Agency is hosting a 5K Ruck March for Them on September 28. The event will consist of the 5K followed by an information fair, live music, and BBQ at the Waverly Glen Park Ampitheater located at 85 Moore Street in Waverly.

The event is designed to raise awareness about veteran and military suicide. Each participant is asked to wear a ruck or backpack with 22 pounds of weight in it to represent the 22 veterans and military members lost every day to suicide.

Local groups and organizations will be tabling during the event and providing information on mental health resources.

The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
