KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Kalamazoo police say they followed a man accused of threatening a woman and saw him driving erratically before he allegedly showed a gun and was shot by officers, documents obtained by News 8 show.

The Kalamazoo Department of Public Safety says that on Oct. 9 , officers started looking for Timothy Holden after a woman who had a personal protection order against him reported he had repeatedly called and threatened her.

KDPS: Man shot by officers had threatened woman

A KDPS police report obtained by News 8 Thursday under the Freedom of Information Act shows Holden told the woman that he had a gun and "somebody was going to die today and it could be her."

"(Holden) also told (the woman) that he was going to die today and that it would be her fault," the document continues.

Holden, KDPS previously said, was wanted on a bond violation and had cut off his electronic tether.

The police report says Holden's SUV was first spotted that day around 11 a.m. Officers later saw it at 11:50 a.m. on Stockbridge Avenue near Portage Road before it stopped on nearby Hays Park Avenue. There, the report says, an officer confirmed the driver was Holden.

The report indicates a call was made to try to stop Holden's car there and arrest him, but he started moving again before arrest teams got there. The report says he was driving erratically, including going the wrong way down one-way roads.

Police in unmarked cars followed Holden to W. Harkins Court near Rose Street, just north of Martin Luther King Memorial Park. There, the police report says, "arrest teams conducted the vehicle intercept" around 12:30 p.m.

"Upon officers making contact with (Holden), a deadly threat was encountered, and officers discharged their weapons, striking (him)," the report says.

The KDPS chief previously told reporters that Holden showed a gun, after which two officers opened fire. Holden was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:48 p.m.

No officers were hurt. A passenger in Holden's car was also unharmed.

KDPS previously said a witness saw Holden using meth before officers approached him.

Michigan State Police were called in to investigate the shooting and the two officers were put on paid leave while that process is underway. That's all standard protocol.

News 8's FOIA request for police video from the scene was denied, with authorities saying releasing it would interfere with MSP's investigation into the shooting.
