Lockport woman faces felony DWI charge after reckless driver complaint
A 38-year-old Lockport woman is facing felony DWI charges following a Tuesday night investigation into a reckless driver complaint on South Transit Road.
Niagara County Sheriff's deputies said they had received reports of a vehicle "all over the road" on South Transit about 11:40 p.m. Tuesday.
A deputy spotted the vehicle heading north on Transit and noted it was swerving out of its lane and the driver failed to signal a turn before changing lanes.
When conducting the traffic stop, the deputy noted that the driver, identified as Latasha Porter, 38, of the City of Lockport, threw a receipt out of the window. She said she was driving home from a fast food restaurant. Deputies noted there was a child in the backseat of the vehicle.
Following a series of field sobriety tests, Porter was charged with felony aggravated driving while intoxicated — Leandra's Law violation, endangering the welfare of a child and aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.
Porter was transported to the Niagara County Sheriff's Office where a breath test determined her blood-alcohol content to be 0.21%.
Porter was held at the Niagara County Correctional Facility for an arraignment.
A passenger in the vehicle was also found to have an active warrant out of Erie County and was turned over to Erie County Sheriff's deputies at the county line.
