Man pleads guilty to drug possession

Nov. 12—LIMA — A Vaughnsville man pleaded guilty Tuesday in the Allen County Common Pleas Court to a second-degree drug possession charge, and both attorneys agreed to a mandatory minimum of four years in prison for the man.

William Pitney, 41, will be sentenced Friday. Judge Terri Kohlrieser allowed Pitney to be released from jail on an own-recognizance bond with an ankle monitor so he could get his affairs in order.

Court documents allege Pitney was found during a traffic stop with methamphetamine greater than 25 grams found on the floor of a car underneath him while he was in the front passenger seat.

The Oklahoma City Police Department (OCPD) on Saturday released footage showing an officer's alleged use of excessive force against Lich Vu, a 70-year-old Asian man with bone cancer, during a traffic violation encounter in late October. A police officer arrived at the scene and issued both drivers a ticket for an improper U-turn. The impact reportedly caused Vu to lose consciousness, with the OCPD stating that the officer removed the handcuffs after the paramedics arrived.

In a New York City courtroom, Eric Gonzalez recalled encountering the chaotic struggle in progress, after Daniel Penny had already pinned the man, Jordan Neely, to the train's floor and placed him in a firm chokehold. "I made my presence known to Daniel Penny," Gonzalez told jurors. Penny is facing manslaughter charges in the May 2023 death of Neely, a 30-year-old man who was homeless.

A Russian court sentenced a Moscow paediatrician to 5-1/2 years in a penal colony on Tuesday, Russian media said, after the mother of one of her patients publicly denounced her over comments about Russian soldiers in Ukraine. Prosecutors had last week asked for a six-year sentence for Nadezhda Buyanova for spreading "fakes" about the Russian army after the mother recorded a video in which she denounced the 68-year-old doctor over remarks that Buyanova has denied making.
