Man who fled police facing a gun charge

PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — A man was arrested on a gun charge after fleeing from police on Saturday. According to Peoria States Attorney Jodi Hoos, Jacobi M. Turner-Claudin, 31, has been charged with unlawful use of a weapon. On Saturday, Peoria police attempted a traffic stop near Kettelle Street and Madison Park Terrace. When officers approached the vehicle, it allegedly fled at a high rate of speed and hit a squad car. The vehicle eventually crashed into a fence. Turner-Claudin was a passenger in the vehicle and tried to flee, but was taken into custody after a short chase. Two men arrested after shooting outside a residence in Peoria Officers located a gun near the passenger side of the vehicle that was equipped with a "switch" that converts it into a fully automatic weapon. At Tuesday's detention hearing, a judge granted the state's petition to keep him detained in custody until his trial. His next scheduled court appearance is Dec. 4. The driver of the vehicle, Martell Perkins, was on parole from the Illinois Department of Corrections and is currently being held in their custody while his charges are being reviewed.
