Mass Clean Energy Week brought EVs to a Palmer racetrack

PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) – Mass Clean Energy Week hosted 18 electric vehicles in an unconventional showcase.

Mass Clean Energy Week hosted a track day for 18 electric vehicles at Palmer Motorsports Park on Wednesday. Guests were able to drive vehicles of all different makes and models on a very technical course at triple-digit speeds. Timothy Cardillo from Balise Lexus told 22News what they wanted people to take away from this event.

"Our hope for people that maybe haven't experienced an electric vehicle to really see what they about, experience the power the low-end torque of these cars is amazing and there a car that performs just like any other car they just happened to be powered by electricity and not by fossil fuels," said Cardillo, manager at Balise Lexus.

Many of these vehicles look unassuming and slow, so we decided to take one for a lap. While some people think EVs are only for practical uses. The Lucid Air has 819 horsepower and 885 pound-feet of torque. We reached 121 miles per hour in a matter of seconds.

As much fun as it is to go blistering fast, these cars stand for much more. Aman Patel, one of the founders of Mass Clean Energy Week, described the larger impact of exposing people to EVs.

"Climate change is definitely relevant in our lives right now and as much as we can do to reduce emissions, reduce carbon emissions all that is a step in the right direction," said Patel.

Mass Clean Energy Week continues through Friday. You can find more information here .
