Moment thugs carried out brutal targeted hammer attack on car on the school run as pupils look on in horror

This is the horrific moment a brutal targeted hammer attack on a car during the school run broke out in broad daylight.

The 30-second clip shows a car smashed between a BMW X5 and a Land Rover before at least four men attacked the driver of the car.

Thugs smashed the passenger window of the black Volkswagen Golf before running towards the driver, a man in his 50s, and landing a string of blows on him using hammers and baseball bats in a brazen attack.

The unbelievable footage appears to have been filmed by a member of the gang and has been shared on social media. The attack happened during rush hour at 8.30am on November 6 on Wordworth Road in Accrington, Lancashire close to Mount Carmel high school, as pupils made their way to morning lessons, police said.

The victim suffered injuries to his face and legs.

People took to social media to comment on the attack.

One person said: 'It is absolutely vile, doing that outside a school during a time when pupils are on their way to lessons. Those poor children will be traumatised having to witness that.'

Following this, police have now appealed to the public and anyone who may have seen what happened to get in touch.

Detective Chief Inspector Sarah Denson of Lancashire Police said: 'This was a violent assault with weapons of a man who suffered serious injuries.

'As we investigate what happened, we are appealing for witnesses to the assault and any information.

'If anyone has CCTV or dashcam footage from the area around the time it happened, we want you to contact the police.'
