Montgomery County first-grade teacher charged with distributing fentanyl resulting in death, officials say

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — The U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland said a criminal complaint was filed against a first-grade teacher in Montgomery County who was charged with distributing fentanyl that led to the death of a person.

Officials said they discovered text messages between the victim and Sarah Katherine Magid, 34, of Burtonsville, Maryland, before the victim's death that showed plans to meet up for a drug transaction involving pills believed to be oxycodone hydrochloride but had fentanyl.

The victim died soon after they met with Magid.

The Chief Medical Examiner determined the victim died due to fentanyl toxicity.

In July 2024, police received a complaint stating that Magid left her classroom to sell drugs outside the school.

Police were able to determine that Magid was selling drugs during work hours.

If convicted, Magid faces 20 years up to life in prison for distribution of fentanyl resulting in death or serious bodily injury.
