Newcastle power cut causes Tyne and Wear Metro disruption
J.Mitchell42 min ago
Metro passengers are facing "major disruption" due to a depot station power cut. Service were disrupted following the outage at Gosforth Metro Depot just before 05:00 GMT, according to Tyne and Wear Metro operator Nexus. Operations director Kevin Storey said it then caused a problem with the service's signalling system. "This has meant we have only been able to get a limited number of trains into service so far today," he said. Trains are currently only operating from Pelaw to the Airport, and Pelaw to Monkseaton and are running at 20-minute intervals. Metro tickets are valid on bus routes, Mr Storey said. "Our team at the Metro control are working with external providers to resolve this," he said. Nexus said it hoped to have normal service resumed by mid-afternoon. Mr Storey said he was "grateful" to customers for their patience and apologised for any inconvenience.
