(WCBD) — For nearly five years, the city of North Charleston has been following a specific road map for the city's future development. Wednesday night, residents had the chance to weigh in on how that plan has been implemented. News 2 spoke with residents who say they want to see more affordable housing in the city. "We definitely need more affordable housing and regulation to allow zones where only single-family houses are allow to let duplex, triplex, quadplexes and more multifamily zoning," said Darryl Robinson, a North Charleston resident. The North Charleston Director of Planning and Zoning said the city has made progress and they will continue to start projects in the plan over the next five years. "We've made progress in certain areas and maybe we haven't quite started this aspirational part over here, but it's still part of the plan and it will get addressed at some time in the future," said Timothy Macholl, the Director of Planning and Zoning. The city will use feedback and the PRIME comprehensive plan as their guide "It is essentially the roadmap and the guiding document that helps us make decisions for land use policy for zoning decisions it also helps guide the council," said Macholl. Residents also expressed the need for a rapid transit system with growing traffic problems North Charleston faces. "The rapid transit we definitely need it we've got to stay ahead of this thing because it's coming," said Robinson.
