Virginia Foothills Quilters Guild meets on the first Tuesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. and the second Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at Piedmont Arts.

Chix with Stix knitters meet at 10:30 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month at Piedmont Arts to work on their individual projects. The public is invited. The cost is $5.

crochet group meets from 10 a.m. to noon each Thursday at the Collinsville Library; join them for free.

Come enjoy a night of comedy at Scuffle Hill Brewing in Collinsville, showcasing some of the funniest local comics. Second Thursday of the month from 8-11 p.m.

Christmas Tree Lighting, today at 4 p.m., Gravely-Lester Art Garden at Piedmont Arts. This free event will feature holiday music by the Martinsville High School Jazz Band and the First Baptist Church Choir, Gale Buck: Storytelling Santa, hot chocolate and crafts.

Gee’s Bend, Antiquity Second Hand: Jonathan Lee, and Works by Karen Despot, Friday, Jan. 26, 5:30 p.m. exhibit and opening reception. Gallery talk at 6:15 p.m. Free and open to the public.

“Rook, Music & More,” each Friday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Bassett Ruritan Club on Philpott Dam Road, is a fun and relaxing time for people to get together to play games, work puzzles, do crafts and play rook. Feel free to bring something to do or food to share.

San Jose Mexican Restaurant at 730 E. Church St., Patrick Henry Mall, has Karaoke Night every Sunday from 6:30-9:30 p.m.

Rooster WalkRives on the Road with presents Rumours — the world’s most famous Fleetwood Mac Tribute Band at the HJDB Event Center in the old Bassett High School, doors open at 8 p.m. on Dec. 2; Sneezy—Liv Sloan and the Die Hards opening, doors open at 8 p.m. at the TAD Space in uptown Martinsville on Dec. 9.

MHC Historical Society’s annual Christmas Music Program will be held from 7-8 p.m. on Friday, at the Historic Henry County Courthouse at 1 E. Main Street. Featured performers will be Valeria Edwards, Joanne Linscott, John Fulcher, Beth Chapman, Virginia King, Davis Scott, Regula Daily and Lynn Pritchett. Peter Marshall will present remarks on the history of Christmas music.

Roanoke Symphony Holiday Pops Spectacular will be at the Martinsville High School Auditorium on Sunday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. The mostly highly anticipated holiday event of the season returns with an all-new matinee performance. Tickets are $30 for reserved seating, $20 for general admission, and $5 for students. Tickets are available at the museum or at PiedmontArts.org .

Martinsville Handbell Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Pamela Randall, 2023 Christmas Concert, Sunday, Dec. 10, 2 p.m., First United Methodist Church, 146 E. Church Street, Martinsville. Free admission. An offering will be collected.

Smith River Singers, under the direction of Dr. Pamela Randall, 2023 Christmas Concert, Monday, Dec. 11, 7 p.m., Galilean House of Worship, 5078 A.L. Philpott Highway. Featuring Brass 5 of Roanoke, First United Methodist Youth Choir, and pianists Beth Chapman and Jill Gardner. Free admission. An offering will be collected.

From China to Appalachia, Saturday, Jan. 13, 6:30 p.m., Piedmont Arts. Grammy Award-winning American roots artists Cathy Fink and Marcy Marxer join with Chinese classical hammered dulcimer player Chao Tian in a show that combines music form China to Appalachia and beyond. Concert begins at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 for general admission and $10 for students.

“Make Some Noise” at Piedmont Arts’ open mic nights series at the museum: Feb. 8, 7 p.m., Monique Holland, local writer; May 9, 6:30 p.m., Chase Young of Rives on the Road with an outdoor theatre performance.
