Police: 7 people arrested for ‘reckless minibike riding’ in downtown Portland

PORTLAND Ore. (KPTV) - Seven people were arrested for riding homemade minibikes recklessly in downtown Portland, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) said.

Around 9 p.m. Wednesday, officers in downtown Portland found a group of minibike riders doing "burnouts" in Pioneer Courthouse Square. The riders rode away from police and ran red lights while fleeing.

Police caught up with the pack of riders at a gas station in southeast Portland. All seven people who were found were arrested and charged with reckless driving.

An eighth rider left his bike behind and ran. He has not been found.

According to PPB, the bikes appeared to be homemade with small engines, no license plates, and no headlights.
