MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The man accused of shooting at least four people at Railgarten in Midtown nearly two weeks ago walked away free from jail after being released on his own recognizance Monday.

Detawn Gunn, 30, is charged with five counts of criminal attempt second-degree murder, five counts of possession of a firearm/dangerous felony, and two counts of vandalism $1,000-2,500.

According to Memphis Police, the shooting took place on August 16 at Railgarten which is located at 2166 Central Avenue. Officers say they found four victims suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene.

Corey Coleman is one of the shooting victims who say the shooting sparked from an argument over a parking spot.

Coleman says he and his family are from Dallas, Texas, and were in town for work. They went to Railgarten to enjoy a family night.

When Coleman's son was parking in the parking spot that they had paid for, the suspect was trying to get in the same spot. He said when he tried to tell the suspect the spots were taken, the suspect got upset and threatened to kill him. Then someone yelled out that he [the suspect] had a gun.

Coleman says he was then shot several times and that everyone else who was shot was either an innocent bystander or trying to stop the suspect.

"Shots in the rib, the back, stomach. I got staples all the way across. Whole back ate up here and the back of the head," Coleman said.

Coleman's son followed the suspect to get his tag number. That is when the suspect allegedly fired a shot at him.

After days on the run, MPD says they used the tag number to track down the vehicle and eventually connect it to Gunn.
