ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — As the weeks following Hurricane Helene and Milton in the southeast part of the county continue to march on, thousands of residents in states like North Carolina are learning the weight of the devastation.

"It's still unbelievable," Brad Wright told Nexstar's WJZY .

'Unbelievable': 11 family members killed by Helene flooding in North Carolina

Wright and his sisters walked down a now rubble-laden road in Buncome County, North Carolina.

"It was an incredible force of nature," Wright said. "Nobody had seen anything like it."

The Wright's parents, Dan and Evelyn, were among the 11 people who died in the storms and subsequent mud slides, which ripped through a small knit community, known as Craigstown, North Carolina.

"This is what's left of the foundation wall from my mom and dad's house," Wright said. "I'm going to believe that it happened so fast that [my parents] didn't have a moment to process any fear at all."

Brad's brother, Chad Wright, owns a sports franchise facility called 'Cheer Athletics.' One location sits right in the upper west side of Rochester. The company is now planning a special event in November to help generate support for the entire family.

"Chad is the guy that would literally take his shirt off his back for anybody in need," Cheer Athletics Rochester Program Director Savannah Lucas told News 8. "He is always there to answer any questions, to listen to life problems. He's just a really good boss, and a really good friend."

Lucas said the proceeds are going directly to Chad for funeral expenses, and anything his family may need.

"If this isn't proof that nothing's guaranteed and tomorrow isn't promised, just helping anybody you can at one point or another, we all needed help at some point," Lucas said.

The fundraiser is set to take place Monday, November 11 . It's $75 for the Cheer Clinic, and is for ages five and up.
