Sewer spill effects south side residents, SAWS reports
SAN ANTONIO - Part of the south side has been affected by a sewer spill, requiring a public notice.
Around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday, a 30-inch sewer main broke near the corner of Mission Road and Acequia, between the Stinson-Mission Municipal Airport and the San Antonio River.
The San Antonio Water System (SAWS) said that they believe fewer than 100,000 gallons of domestic wastewater was leaked into the surrounding area, potentially affecting the San Antonio River.
Although authorities have not issued a boil water notice, authorities recommend that residents refrain from swimming in nearby streams or ponds, wash their hands thoroughly, and encourage private well owners to get their wells inspected.
Local government officials have been notified of the spill, and cleanup is well underway.
