It was probably an unpleasant surprise for most to wake up to this morning.

Much of the Wyoming Valley received at least a coating of snow overnight and into this morning. Temperatures were warmer than usual, with the National Weather Service indicating temperatures in the lower to mid 20s at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport.

A slight chance for snow showers is expected before giving way to mostly sunny skies after 10 a.m. today. Today’s high will only climb to about 30 degrees. Blustery winds of up to 22 miles per hour will add a little bite to the cold.

Clear skies will make for a quieter night tonight, with a low in the mid 10s.

Cloud cover will return on Thursday, with the high climbing to the lower to mid 40s. Light winds will gradually blow at about 10 to 15 miles per hour in the afternoon.

Clouds will hover overhead on Thursday night, followed by a chance of rain after 5 a.m. The low will drop to 34 degrees. The chance of precipitation is currently 30 percent.

Rain is likely after 9 a.m. on Friday, with a 70 percent chance currently being predicted. Friday’s high is expected to climb to the lower 50s. Showers are once again predicted for Friday night, with a low around 48 degrees.
