WILKES-BARRE – As the saying goes, March is coming in like a lion.

Three to four inches of snow is expected in the Wyoming Valley Sunday into Monday, according to a spokesman for the National Weather Service. The storm comes on the heels of a week of bone-chilling temperatures.

Mike Nadolski said projections show the heaviest part of the storm will fall to the south and the lower tip of Luzerne County, near Hazleton, could see up to six inches.

He said projections have been scaled back from earlier in the week.

He said the snow could begin on Sunday morning, when temperatures will be near freezing, and one inch could accumulate in the afternoon.

Sunday evening, snow will pick up and another three inches will fall into Monday morning. Highs will be in the lower 20s. The storm will be gone by Monday afternoon, he said.

He said the storm is just hitting the California coast now and “any little shift” could change the outlook.

The rest of today, St. David’s Day for the Welsh among us, will be mostly cloudy, with highs in the upper 20s. Tonight will be mostly cloudy with a chance of light snow after midnight. Lows will be in the lower 20s.
