Sugar Land voters approve all 5 propositions of $350M bond package

Sugar Land voters approved all five propositions of a $350 million bond that includes a new police headquarters and animal shelter, street and sidewalk improvements.

More than 47,000 residents cast votes for the bond on the Nov. 5 ballot.

The bond will fund the following capital projects in the next five to seven years:

Proposition A: Includes $144.5 million for public safety and was approved by 63.94% of voters.

It includes several planned renovations of existing police and courts building and new police headquarters, fire station expansion and rebuild, phase three of the public safety training facility, public safety facilities rehabilitation, fire apparatus replacement and rebuild, new field maintenance facility, public services building rehabilitation and modernization, purchase SWAT command vehicles and Austin Parkway fuel station rehabilitation.

Proposition B: Includes $118 million for streets, sidewalks and mobility and was in favor by 74.33% of voters.

It will focus construction phases on streets across the Sugar Land area such as sidewalks and mobility. Some of these sites include streets such as Austin Parkway, Austin Parkway at Commonwealth, Burney/Main sidewalk widening at Stadium Drive, Lexington Boulevard major street rehabilitation and several other streets and roads across the area.

It will feature drainage modifications to Austin Parkway West, Chatham at McAllister, Hillstone, Texas 6 at Brooks, Windmill, and replace existing drainage inlets in Sugar Lakes.

Proposition D: Includes $40.5 million for municipal facilities and 51.47% of voters were in favor of a new field maintenance facility and public services building rehabilitation and modernization.

Proposition E: Includes supplemental funding for a $12 million animal shelter and was in favor of 64.43% of voters.
