Tennessee Titans sign former Alabama high school standout

The Tennessee Titans' Nissan Stadium is about 35 miles from Middle Tennessee's Floyd Stadium. Chandler Brewer was a standout for the Blue Raiders on the latter football field in Murfreesboro. Now he could be playing for the NFL team in Nashville on the former.

The Florence High School alumnus signed with Tennessee's practice squad on Tuesday.

Each NFL team has a 16-player practice squad. The practice-squad members do what the 53 members of the active roster do, except play in games. But every game, each team can elevate two members of its practice squad to active status to make them eligible to play.

Brewer had been out of football since Aug. 28, when the New Orleans Saints released the offensive tackle from injured reserve with an injury settlement. The Saints had placed Brewer on IR with an undisclosed injury on Aug. 6.

That was the second time this year that Brewer had been released from injured reserve. The Jacksonville Jaguars placed him on IR on June 14 and released him on July 16.

Brewer has been in the NFL since 2019, when he made the Los Angeles Rams as an undrafted rookie. He played in seven games in 2019 and six games, with four starts, in 2022.

Brewer opted out of the 2020 season under the NFL's plan to play during the coronavirus pandemic. He was on the Rams' practice squad during the 2021 season, which ended when Los Angeles defeated the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 in Super Bowl LVI.

Brewer spent most of last season on the Jaguars' practice squad, but he did make one regular-season appearance. He re-signed with Jacksonville on Jan. 8.
