Tunkhannock earns first win since 2012

TUNKHANNOCK — Tunkhannock pulled out a close win in five sets, downing visiting Delaware Valley 25-23, 14-25, 25-12, 23-25, 15-13 in Wyoming Valley Conference boys volleyball.

The Tigers earned their first win since a victory over Lake-Lehman in May 2012.

Adam Billings led the way with 18 kills, while Zach Daniels contributed 10 assists and Luke Cruver had six blocks.

Boys Volleyball

North Pocono 3, Crestwood 0

Connor Knight had eight kills, and Matt Morris had 27 assists and 21 service points in the Trojans’ 25-15, 25-20, 25-15 sweep.

Luke Casey led the visiting Comets with 10 kills and nine blocks.

BOYS TENNIS

Wyoming Valley West 5, Coughlin 0

Pat Antall gave up only two games in two sets to kick-start the Spartans’ sweep over the Crusaders.

Wyoming Area 89.5, GAR 60.5

The Warriors earned first place wins in 10 events to claim the victory over the Grenadiers.

Wyoming Area 111, GAR 37

The Warriors had 13 first-place finishes to earn the win over the Grenadiers.

COLLEGE BASEBALL

Cougars win doubleheader

Misericordia took a doubleheader at Eastern, 4-3 and 8-6, to complete a three-game sweep of the Eagles.

Kyle Lindsay had two hits, while Chris Boroch had a hit and scored two runs in the opening game. Mike Comerford had three hits, including a home run, in the second game.

DeSales 7, Wilkes 4

After taking a 4-0 lead in the first inning, Wilkes was unable to hold on as DeSales scored seven unanswered runs to claim a Freedom Conference victory.

James Brown led the Wilkes bats, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

COLLEGE SOFTBALL

Manhattanville sweeps King’s

King’s managed just nine hits over the course of two games as the Monarchs dropped both doubleheader games 3-0, 5-0.

Amanda Cardone had a double, while Erin Beane, Tina Seber and Nicolette Pizzo each had singles in game one. Jenn Harnischfeger, Maggie Gola, Amy Kowalczyk, Seber and Pizzo all had singles for King’s in game two.

Misericordia splits doubleheader

Misericordia opened its Freedom Conference schedule with a split at Eastern winning the first game 3-2, but dropping the second game 7-4.

Sam Hare had a two-run homer in game one, while Megan Hardy led the effort in game two with three hits, including a three-run homer.

Wilkes splits doubleheader

Wilkes posted a split with rival Scranton taking game one, 8-0 in six innings, before falling 11-3 in game two.

Pitcher Alysha Bixler earned her first win on the season, and ended game one with a three-run homer.

Bixler led the effort in game two with a double and an RBI.

COLLEGE WOMEN’S TENNIS

King’s 5, Misericordia 4

Sara Lynn posted a match-winning 7-5, 7-6 triumph to give King’s College a Freedom Conference victory over Misericordia.
