Tunkhannock rallies over WVW

TUNKHANNOCK — Tunkhannock trailed by as many as 31 points before sweeping five of the final six events to win 76.5-69.5 over Wyoming Valley West Thursday in Wyoming Valley Conference boys track and field.
Carson Ayers finished first in the 800 and the pole vault for the Tigers. Tunkhannock’s 1,600 runners of Jack Tidball, Ayers and Jacob Toczko took the top-three spots, all finishing within three seconds of another. Tim Mackiw earned first in the shot put and discus.
The Spartans received a first place from Eric Acosta in the 100 dash at 11.5 seconds. Corey Patrick won the long jump and 100 hurdles.
Hanover Area 109, GAR 39
The Hawkeyes’ Stephen Dule won the 3,200 run in 12 minutes, 19 seconds. Bobby Kerestes finished first in the 400. Giovanni Baiamonte and Jordan Hagler tied in the pole vault.
GAR’s Anthony Easter tossed a 109 feet, 5 inch discus throw for first place. Anthony Maurent took first in the 110 hurdles, 100 and 200 runs.
Coughlin 94, Berwick 56
Ryan Decinti earned first in the 400 in 54.6 seconds for the Crusaders. Anthony Khalife won in the shot put and the discus.
Berwick’s Tommy Laubach and Robbie Harter both tied with 10 foot pole vault leaps.
Hanover Area 112, GAR 24
The Hawkeyes’ Brexy Pena finished first in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles. Chyanne Fine tossed the farthest shot put and discus throws.
GAR was led by a first place finishes by Samantha McCloe (200) and Avery Harris (100).
Tunkhannock 122, Wyoming Valley West 25
The Tigers cruised to a win thanks to a pair of distance firsts by Maggie Toczko. Jamie Bamberger threw a javelin 93 feet to place on top.
Wyoming Valley West’s Onyoo Park finished seven-tenths of a second in front of Tunkhannock’s Alexa Prebola in the 800 dash
Berwick 93, Coughlin 56
Coughlin’s Tamar Bourdeau clocked in first in the 100 hurdles and 400 dash. Madisyn Hawkins vaulted 8 feet, 6 inches for gold. Mary Tona ran a 50-flat in the 300 hurdles.
Olivia Seely won three events (shot put, javelin, discus) for the Bulldogs.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Nanticoke 3, Delaware Valley 0
Robert Burke recorded a match-high 10 kills as the Trojans earned a 25-9, 25-10, 25-16 sweep on the road. Ed Lukowski (23 assists), Matt Winters (8 kills) and Brent Piontkowski all contributed in the win.
Joe Protsko had eight kills to lead the Warriors.
North Pocono 3, Hazleton Area 0
North Pocono downed Hazleton Area by scores of 25-5, 25-13, 25-7. Justin Butler had 15 digs for the Trojans, and Erik Chalmer added four aces.
Hazleton Area’s Carlos Rodriguez had eight digs.
Crestwood 3, Wyoming Valley West 1
Crestwood outlasted the Spartans in a tight battle (24-26, 28-26, 25-22, 25-22) that saw two sets go into extra points. Kyle Price had 30 assists for the Comets. Corey Manship registered 18 kills. Luke Casey (17 kills, 10 digs) and Chris Dexter (15 digs, 10 assists) each had a double-double.
The Spartans’ Mark Burridge had 14 kills, eight blocks and seven digs.
