Evans Pitches Perfect Game In Five-inning Victory Over Gar

DALLAS – Ally Evans pitched a five-inning perfect game to lead Dallas to a 10-0 win over GAR in Wyoming Valley Conference softball action. Evans struck out six in the effort.
Kasey Corbett was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI to lead the Mountaineers at the plate. Shauna Phillips hit two RBI singles.
Sam Osowski took the loss for GAR, pitching four innings and allowing 10 hits.
Hazleton Area 6, Berwick 5
Kelcey Landis was 3-for-5 and Brianna Huff was 3-for-4 to lead Hazleton. Brittany Kringer laced a double for the Cougars.
Heather Dale pitched seven innings for the win, striking out nine batters.
Berwick’s Megan Mowry tripled while Breanne Schafer doubled to lead the Bulldogs.
Talia Williams took the loss in seven innings, striking out seven.
Bishop O’Reilly 7, MMI Prep 3
Morgan Evans went the distance and struck out five to lead the Queenswomen. Jamie Pugh went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and three runs scored for O’Reilly at the plate.
Sam Sparks and Krissy Sissick both had two hits for MMI.
Nanticoke 9, Northwest Area 0
Jess Higgins pitched a complete-game two-hitter with six strikeouts to shut down the Rangers.
Holly Sarnak hit a solo shot for the Trojans, who also got three-hit performances from Higgins and Pam Walters.
Coughlin 5, Pittston Area 1
Hannah Sharp struck out 15 Patriots in the complete-game victory, allowing just two hits. Sharp, Amy Cook and Brittany Bigelow all doubled for the Crusaders.
Melissa Washney homered for Pittston.
Hanover 10, Meyers 9
Jess Paveletz doubled home the winning run in the top of the eighth inning for Hanover Area. She also notched the victory, striking out 10 batters in eight innings of work
Paveletz wound up going 3-for-4, and Chintalla Marley was 3-for-5 to pace the Hawkeyes’ offensive attack. Meyers was led by Liz Amesbury, who went 2-for-5.
Wyoming Seminary 6, Bishop Hafey 5
Cara Latchum hit a two RBI double to lead Wyoming Seminary. Rhea Margelewicz earned the win in three innings of relief with two strikeouts.
Wendy Balko led Hafey with two doubles and two RBI. Ashley Dinko doubled and earned the loss in seven innings, giving up seven hits and walking two.
Wyoming Valley West 11, Crestwood 0 (5 inn.)
Natalie Mitchell and Sara Gurgal each hit three-run home runs in the third inning to lead Wyoming Valley West. Jess Ras was the winning pitcher in the shortened contest, allowing only two hits and striking out seven.
Sarah Plaviak and Kylie Licata singled for Crestwood. Lauren Hochreiter took the loss in five innings, allowing seven hits and six walks, striking out three.
Seton Catholic 18, West Side Tech 0 (3 inn.)
Ashley McCollough and Jill Jerosky were each 3-for-4 with three singles to lead Seton Catholic. Amanda Perlock allowed only one hit in the shortened three-inning contest.
Cherish Boehm hit a single for West Side Tech.

Pittston Area 11, Coughlin 10
The two rivals combined for another epic game, as the Patriots held off Coughlin to sweep the season series. Carmen LoPresto was 2-for-4 with three RBI and a double for Pittston (3-5), which got a home run from Rob Timek.
J.P Kearney led the Crusaders (4-5) with a 2-for-5 effort, hitting a homer and driving in five.
Dallas 10, Tunkhannock 9 (9 inn.)
Greg Harris came through with an RBI single with one out in the bottom of the ninth to give the Mountaineers the win.
Sophomore Scott Skammer was 2-for-3 with three RBI and scored the winning run for Dallas (4-5), which got a home run from Pat Murray.
Will Zaleppa (three RBI) and Thurston Sick (two RBI) both homered in the first for the Tigers (5-3) for an early 5-0 lead.
Wyoming Valley West 17, Crestwood 4 (6 inn.)
Seven different Spartans knocked in two runs to keep Valley West (8-0) undefeated and on top of the Division I standings.
Sean Toole and Dave Janus both had three hits for the Spartans.
Bill Baratta was 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Comets (4-5).
Northwest Area 9, MMI Prep 1
Wes Ravert was 3-for-3 with a double to lead Northwest (9-0). Ryan Jola pinch-hit for a home run.
Matt Kempinski pitched four innings for the win, allowing only four hits and fanning 12 batters.
Steve Palubinsky had an RBI double for the Preppers (0-6).
Bishop Hafey 5, Wyoming Seminary 2
Mike Bigatel’s big day at the plate fueled the Vikings (6-2), as the Hafey catcher went 4-for-4 with a double, a homer and two RBI.
Jeremy Wizeman also homered, and went the distance on the mound, striking out nine in the win.
Dylan Seeley was 2-for-2 with a double for the Blue Knights (3-6). Torin Perrotti (RBI) struck out nine in the loss.
Berwick 5, Hazleton Area 1
Jon Wilson led Berwick (5-3) with a three-run home run in the bottom of the third inning. Alex Soboleski doubled with two RBI.
Scott Berkes picked up the win in seven innings with nine strikeouts.
Austin Brodeur was 2-for-3 with a double to lead the Cougars (0-7). Geoff Perkowski doubled.
Dave Masteller took the loss in six innings with 10 strikeouts and four walks, allowing six hits.
Lake-Lehman 17, Bishop O’Reilly 4 (5 inn.)
Scott Davis (3-for-4, three doubles, two RBI) and Mike Prater (4-for-4, double, triple, four RBI) led the offensive surge for the Black Knights (8-0). Bobby Peron struck out eight in the win and Tom Perry added a home run.
Tommy Horn had two hits and drove in a run for the Queensmen (0-8).
Seton Catholic 19, West Side Tech 0 (3 inn.)
The Eagles got multiple RBI from six players, led by Dave Scarnato (3-for-3, two doubles, four RBI).
Chris Iorio allowed three hits in picking up the win for Seton (5-3).
Jordan Fuller, Nick Bednar and Luke Scheitierumpf had hits for the Titans (1-7).
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Berwick 3, Tunkhannock 0
The Dawgs stayed on a roll with a 25-21, 25-18, 25-15 sweep of the Tigers on the road.
Bishop O’Reilly 3, Delaware Valley 0
Joe Kopicki had 12 kills, seven blocks and 8 points to lead Bishop O’Reilly in a 25-21, 25-16, 25-10 victory. Jeff Stewart (12 kills, six blocks, 8 digs) and Nick Latosek (29 assists, 11 pts, four aces) also chipped in for the Queensmen.
Alex Izquierdo (24 digs), Pat Heins (13 assists and two kills) and Kyle Guyre (seven blocks, five kills) paced Delaware Valley.
Abington Heights 3, Coughlin 2
The Comets rallied from a 2-1 deficit to knock off Coughlin 18-25, 25-17, 14-25, 25-15, 15-6.
John Benkoski (19 kills), Wally Savage (16 kills) and Anthony Seola (44 assists) led the effort for the Crusaders.
Lake-Lehman 3, Nanticoke 2
Sean Bieski had 14 kills, five blocks and seven digs to lead Nanticoke in a 17-25, 25-10, 20-25, 25-23, 12-15 loss. Mark Harvey (29 assists, four blocks), John Albanese (nine kills) and Keith Munson (six kills) also scored.
Girls Soccer
Honesdale 2, Meyers 1 (OT)
Kensley Gelatt scored two goals including the game-winner in overtime to lead Honesdale. Grace Manzione and Kayla Hartley assisted.
Pittston Area 3, GAR 1
Desiree Spindler scored a goal and assisted on another to lead Pittston Area. Crystal Price and Carlene Semenza also scored.
Macy Macko scored the lone goal for the Grenadiers.
Hanover Area 2, Tunkhannock 1
Kristen Pstrak scored a goal from 20 yards straightaway one minute into overtime to give Hanover Area the victory. Chelsea Golightly scored the Hawkeyes’ other goal on an assist by Dana Abend.
Brittany Trotter scored Tunkhannock’s lone goal.
Wallenpaupack 2, Delaware Valley 0
Kelsi Horan scored two goals in the second half to lead Wallenpaupack. Lauren Cassel assisted.
Delaware Valley’s Hannah Kyle made 21 stops in goal.
Boys Tennis
Tunkhannock 4, GAR 0
Sam Dodda and Joe Reese were singles winners for Tunkhannock while the teams of John Cognetti and Matt Blockus picked up the win at No. 1 doubles and Sameal Hill and Ivan Cordero won at second doubles.
Crestwood 5, Hazleton Area 0
Arthur Luchowski, David Waske and Mike Marsciano were singles winners for Crestwood.
Patrick Callaghan and Brian Hosage teamed up for a win at No. 1 doubles while Jake O’Hara and Jon Woolfolk took second doubles.
MMI 3, Berwick 2
Mike Cesari picked up the win at No. 1 singles to seal the win for MMI. Robert Yahulla and Nick Anthony were winners at No. 1 doubles and Zack Klush and Justin Yakuboski took second doubles.
Mitch Collins and Josh Abraham were singles winners for Berwick.


King’s 19, Misericordia 7
Mike Venarchick led the way for the Monarchs (27-9) by going 4-for-6 with four doubles and four RBI. Josh Faust (double, three RBI), Jeremy Faust (double, RBI) and J.R. Graver (double, RBI) each finished with three hits.
Freshman Ryan Tychinski (4-0) picked up the win, going six innings and allowing four runs on eight hits.
The Monarchs will open up Freedom Conference Tournament play at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, as second-seeded King’s faces No. 3 FDU-Florham at Quakertown Memorial Park.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
Wilkes heads to NCAAs
The Lady Colonels learned Monday night they will be heading to Amherst College for the regional round of the NCAA Division III Tournament that begins on Friday. It will be the first ever trip to the NCAA Tournament for the team.
Wilkes earned an automatic berth into the NCAA field by winning the Freedom Conference championships in the fall, will carry their school-record 18-1 mark into an opening round match against Hunter College (22-0) at a time to be determined.
MEN’S GOLF
Cougars finish sixth
Ryan Beliveau earned second-team All-PAC honors to lead Misericordia at the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference championships on Sunday.
Beliveau shot 80-83 and finished 10th overall. Mike Green fired 89-82 to finish 18th overall. The Cougars finished sixth in the team standings with a two-day total of 695.

Decatur honored
Misericordia standout Nichole Decatur has been named to the PAC Player of the Week Honor Roll.
A freshman pitcher/outfielder, Decatur was 2-1 with a 2.00 ERA while leading the Cougars to a 5-1 week. At the plate, she hit .640 (16-for-25) with three doubles, three homers, nine RBI and six runs.
