CINCINNATI (WXIX) - US-50 at the 6th Street Viaduct has been reopened after a train derailment occurred in Queensgate Saturday night, according to Cincinnati District Fire Chief Jason Vollmer.

In an interview with FOX19 NOW, CFD Assistant Chief Matt Flagler said that just after 9 p.m., CSX Railroad called 911 to report a train derailment around Sixth Street and Evans Street in Queensgate.

Chief Vollmer says eight cars were derailed containing shipment of new automobiles and some of the cars hit the support columns for the Sixth Street viaduct (US-50), with one falling into Mill Creek.

Assistant Chief Flager confirms that there are no injuries, nor are there any hazardous materials posing a risk to the public outside the immediate area.

Vollmer says that the Ohio Department of Transportation bridge inspectors arrived and determined that there was no structural integrity issue. They were able to reopen the bridge after three hours of it closing.

The Metropolitan Sewer District is also checking for damage, Flager says, but he does not expect there to be any.

The U.S. Coast Guard is involved because of the train car that fell into Mill Creek, and their Hazardous Materials Team is putting up protective barriers in case anything leaked from the vehicles.

FOX19 NOW will continue to provide updates as they are available.
