In a statement, the Sheriff's Office stated the woman, Aniya Sheppard, had been shot, and she was likely the intended target of the violent attack. Its investigators are currently conducting interviews and going over the evidence to determine what led to her death.

On Monday, deputies responded to the manufactured home community in the area of Eber Boulevard and Buddy Drive around 6:40 a.m. after someone reported seeing her body, according to the statement.

Sheriff Wayne Ivey indicated Sheppard had been known to travel between Fort Pierce and Brevard County before her death.

The Sheriff's Office did not indicate if investigators have identified a suspect or if anyone was in custody.

Anyone with information about her death is asked to call the Brevard County Sheriff's Office Homicide Unit at or its Crimeline at , and it reminds would-be tipsters that calls to the Crimeline can be anonymous and are eligible for a reward.
