WVC duo selected
Caroline Suitch of Bishop Hoban on Sunday was selected to play in the CanAm
Field Hockey Challenge, and Lindsay Quintiliani of Crestwood was selected as
an alternate to the event.
Both goalies also were selected to the Olympic Developmental Squad, which
replaces the U16 and U18 National Teams. Suitch will play at the CanAm
Challenge, set for Aug. 2-8 in Vancouver, British Columbia. She was one of 48
players from around the country who were chosen for the event based on their
play at the National Futures Tournament in Virginia Beach, Va. Suitch was in
the U16 division, and Quintiliani was in the U19 division.
The CanAm Challenge will feature three teams of American players going head
to head with three teams of Canadian players.
Suitch and Quintiliani were the fifth and sixth Pocono players to be named
to the Olympic Developmental Squad. Earlier during the National Futures
Tournament, three Wyoming Seminary players (Tara Puffenberger, Kelsey Lloyd
and Kat Sharkey) and one Wyoming Valley West player (Kelsey Kolojejchick) were
named to the Olympic Developmental Squad.
Sixty-four players from around the country were named to the Olympic
Developmental Squad based on their performance at the National Futures
Tournament, which ran from July 9-17 at the U.S. Field Hockey Training Center
in Virginia Beach.

King’s lands softball star
Forest City High School standout Amanda Rizner will be a member of the
King’s College softball team in the spring.
Rizner was a star performer at Forest City where she pitched and played
first base, second base and outfield during her four years as a starter.
As a senior, Rizner posted a .458 (22-for-54) batting average, with two
home runs, five doubles, nine stolen bases, 12 RBI, and 19 runs. As a pitcher,
she posted a 6-3 record, with 60 strikeouts in 52 innings, and tossed a
perfect game April 14 against Sacred Heart.
She was named the Forest City team most valuable player while earning
first-team Lackawanna League Division III all-star honors.
Rizner made an immediate impact as a freshman at Forest City when she
batted .468 and earned team most valuable player honors. As a sophomore, she
hit .400, then improved to .543 as a junior while posting a 6-1 pitching
record and a 1.14 ERA. She was a three-time Lackawanna League North Division
All-Star selection.
