Allegany County man charged in Steuben County sexual assault

( WETM ) – An Allegany County man has been arrested in connection to an incident of sexual assault in Steuben County.

Roger L. Cobin, 34, was arrested on two counts of rape in the first degree (class B felony), rape in the second degree (class D felony), sexual abuse in the first degree (class D felony), rape in the third degree (class E felony) and endangering the welfare of a child (class A misdemeanor) as reported by the New York State Police.

Reports state that the New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation at the state police barracks in Bath received a complaint about a sexual assault with two separate victims, one age 15 and the other age 19. Upon a several-month investigation, police say they found that Cobin had allegedly had sexual contact with both victims on multiple occasions over a year.

On Sept. 27, a Steuben County Superior Court Warrant of Arrest was issued for Cobin on the above-listed charges. On Oct. 16, Cobin was processed at the state police barracks in Wayland on all charges and then transported to the Steuben County Superior Court where he had his charges read to him.

As a result, protection orders were issued to both victims and Cobin was returned to the Steuben County Jail with bail set at $60,000 cash, $120,000 secured property bond and $180,000 partially secured bond.
