April 17: Free skin cancer screenings, at Geisinger Dermatology-Dunmore, 1000 Meade Street, Suite 204, from 1 to 4 p.m. Skin cancer is most treatable when caught early. If you have moles, skin changes or have been exposed to UV rays, Geisinger recommends you attend the free screening to find out if you are at risk. Regional Hospital of Scranton’s Second annual “Spring into Heart Health: Cardiac Health Fair”, on the second floor of Regional Hospital’s McGowan Conference Center from 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Representatives of various cardiac care departments will be on hand to provide information and answer questions. In addition, cardiologists from Great Valley Cardiology will be available to discuss their wide range of cardiac care options. Cholesterol screening and blood pressure screenings will be offered and video presentations of actual cardiac procedures will be presented.

Leadership Lackawanna’s Core Class of 2013’s Night of Dinner and Cocktails, at POSH in downtown Scranton, from 5:30 – 8 p.m. Benefits the “Foster Our Future” project for Friendship House and foster care awareness. April 19: Spring Concert, at Baptist Bible College, Murphy Memorial Library, at 8 p.m., continuing April 20 at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m. The Musical Department of Baptist Bible College will present the Concert Chorale, Chamber Singers and faculty and student vocalists and instrumentalists. Scranton BRAWL: Broads’ Regional Arm Wrestling League event, at The Vintage Theater, 326 Spruce Street, Scranton, at 6 p.m. Abington Heights junior Zia Lawrence is the organizer of the event, which is a fundraiser for the Community Intervention Center of Scranton. It is part performance and part arm wrestling tournament, and will feature eight young women who will each take on a distinct costume and character for a night of fun, feminism and “girl power.” Cost: $10 at the door.

“Spaghetti and Spoons!” dinner, at Clarks Green Assembly of God, 204 S. Abington Road, Clarks Green, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature an authentic Italian spaghetti dinner prepared by Chef Mazar of the Bridgeview Restaurant in Nicholson. Clarks Summit eateries will also offer sample spoonfuls of their favorite menu items. All proceeds benefit the general fund of Abington Christian Academy, which finances curriculum materials, special needs instruction, teacher salaries, facilities rental, and student scholarships. Christy Mathewson Park work day, at the park from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Volunteers are needed to help mulch gardens, weed gardens and clean the park. Lunch will be provided for volunteers by The Factoryville Shade Tree Commission. Parking is available at the Lackawanna Trail Elementary Center, 179 College Avenue, and then walk across pedestrian bridge at back of parking lot into Christy Mathewson Park.
