Cyclist Struck By Car In Skokie, Driver Remains On Scene, Police Say A 17-year-old was reportedly struck while riding his bike Saturday night on Touhy Avenue over the Edens Expressway.

SKOKIE, IL — A motorist collided with a bicyclist late Saturday night on Touhy Avenue over the Edens expressway in Skokie, police said.

Shortly before 10 p.m., a car headed west on Touhy hit a cyclist, according to Skokie police.

The driver reportedly remained at the scene until officers arrived.

Images from the scene showed a single-speed bicycle and a sneaker sitting on the sidewalk.

The 17-year-old bicyclist was taken to the hospital, where police said his condition was stabilized.

Touhy Avenue was shut down for several hours as police investigated the crash, reopening by 7 a.m. Sunday, according to WLS, which first reported the crash.

The crash came hours after what was at least the 14th fatal crash involving a cyclist so far this year.

Those killed include 27-year-old Joseph Center , of Skokie, 74-year-old Michael Rapp , of Skokie, and 37-year-old Carlos Medina , a Chicago resident who worked at the Oakton Street CTA maintenance facility in Skokie.

A 54-year-old Isabel Dimas-Jimenez, of Naperville, woman died after suffering a head injury in a crash after she was struck Saturday morning by a turning Jeep on Royal Saint George Drive and West Ogden Avenue in Naperville.

Dimas-Jimenez was the second suburban cyclist to be killed in a crash so far in September.

Trina Smith, 18, of Zion, was struck by two cars in Wadsworth and died from her injuries. One of the drivers left the scene and was later identified but has not been charged.
