H.S. Roundup: Hazleton Area girls remain in first with victory over Wyoming Valley West

Hazleton Area overcame a slow start to defeat Wyoming Valley West 50-35 Monday night to remain atop Division 1 in Wyoming Valley Conference girls basketball.

Hazleton Area trailed 10-7 after one quarter and used a 21-point fourth period to pull away. Marissa Trivelpiece led the way with 16 points followed by Faith Grula with 15.

Trinity Johnson scored 13 for Wyoming Valley West.

Wilkes-Barre Area 44, Pittston Area 38

Allyca Harris scored 15 points and Vanessa Luna netted 10 to lead the Wolfpack.

Lily Savoy scored 11 and Emma Coles added nine for Pittston Area.

Nanticoke Area 56, Crestwood 50

Nanticoke was led by Riley Baird and Abby Cullen in its fourth quarter comeback. Baird scored 15 points and Cullen had 14.

Helena Jardine had a game-high 21 points for the Comets.

Lake-Lehman 56, Wyoming Seminary 31

The Black Knights defeated Wyoming Seminary behind 22 points from Claire Dougherty and 17 points from Sarah Salus.

Ally Vezendy had 11 points to lead the Blue Knights.

Wyoming Area 62, Tunkhannock 41

The Warriors were lead to victory by Cassidy Orzel with 21 points. Morgan Janeski added 14 points and Nicole Silinskie had 11.

Lexi Corby had 14 points to lead Tunkhannock.

Holy Redeemer 48, Northwest 38

Holy Redeemer topped the Rangers behind 11 points from Liv Moore and 10 points from Faith Sekol.

Reagan Harrison had 11 points for Northwest.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Williamsport 56, Hazleton Area 43

Hazleton Area fell behind early and couldn’t recover in its non-conference loss to Williamsport.

Scotty Campbell scored 16 to pace Hazleton Area. Williamsport’s Nassir Jones led all scorers with 14.

Lake-Lehman 39, Scranton Prep 27

Mason Konigus (113) recorded a pin in 15 seconds and Lake-Lehman had five falls in all in its non-conference win.

Josh Bonomo (152) also took less than a minute for his pin. Zach Stuart (138) and Kevin Burke (145) recorded first-period falls while Logan Slivinski (182) posted his pin late in the second period.
