WOODBURY — In its regular season finale, Mayo fell to East Ridge in a tight showdown 21-14.

The teams was tied in the fourth quarter 14-14 until East Ridge found the end zone again with 1 minute and 29 seconds left to play.

The Spartans were without some of their starters including quarterback Isaac Peterson, standout running back Isaiah Beale and a couple of other players who did not suit up on Thursday night.

"I think the kids that needed to step up into those spots played well and did what they were asked to do," Mayo coach Donny Holcomb said after the game.

The Spartans end the regular season 2-6 overall and 1-4 in Metro District action. Now, they wait to see who they will face in the Section 3, 6A playoffs.

"We need to sustain drives on offense, so we need to make sure that we know what we're doing on offense individually, and once we find out our opponent, we strategize to their strengths and weaknesses," Holcomb said.
