WILKES-BARRE – Winning pitcher Mike Post tossed a two-hitter with eight
strikeouts and added three hits at the plate to lead Plains to a 12-0 victory
over Wilkes-Barre on Thursday in a District 16 minor league losers bracket
game.

Shamus Gartley broke the game open in the fifth inning with a bases-loaded
triple to give Plains a 7-0 lead. Dave Parsnik and Justin Okun had two hits
apiece for Plains.
Justin and Cliff Frances had the hits for North Wilkes-Barre.

D-16 Senior Teeners


Plains/North Wilkes-Barre 9, West Pittston 1

WILKES-BARRE – Justin Gober (a double and two RBI) and Bob Dunsmuir
(2-for-2 with a triple, run scored and an RBI) led Plains/North Wilkes-Barre
over West Pittston. Tony Lakkis pitched all six innings for the win.

Justin Jagodzinski and Steve Reilly each added a double for the winners.


Hanover 13, East Mountain 3

WILKES-BARRE – Mike Ferrence threw a two-hitter and had three hits at the
plate for Hanover. Chris Jones added three hits and Cody Smith tripled. Matt
Kuhl knocked in the winning run.

Tony Chapman tripled for East Mountain.

D16 JUNIOR SOFTBALL


Newport/Nanticoke 6, Plains 1

PLAINS – Jess Higgins struck out 10 and allowed three hits as
Newport/Nanticoke won the losers bracket final.

Chyna Kishbaugh and Amanda Cardone each had two hits for the winners.
Gianna Hantza, Becky Hall and Kace Rava each had a hit for Plains.



Mountain Top and Plains were victorious behind strong pitching efforts.

Brian Markowski threw a one-hitter in Mountain Top’s 5-1 victory over South
Wilkes-Barre. Josh Dotzel and Tyler Robinson led the hitting. Caleb Lee had
South Wilkes-Barre’s only hit.

Dave Marriggi and Ricky Stayer combined to pitch Plains to a 14-1 win over
Jenkins Township.

Marriggi and Adam Giovanelli had three hits each. Jordan Consagra had
Jenkins Township’s only hit.

BABE RUTH SOFTBALL

The girls U14 and U10 state championships will be held today through Monday
at Stacey Galardi Field at the Bob Strish Memorial Sports Complex in Ashley.

The Luzerne County Girls Softball League was awarded the tournament after
holding successful state and regional competitions in the past.

Play in the double-elimination tournament begins at 6 p.m. today. The
opening ceremonies will feature guest speakers County Commissioner Chairman
Greg Skrepenak, Ashley mayor Rick Oravic and Babe Ruth State Commissioner Jim
Norsworthy.

Anyone interested in volunteering should contact tournament director Hank

JANUZZI’S 11-12 TOURNAMENT


West Pittston 4, Heights 3

WYOMING – Kyle Rogers fanned 13 and Chris Murphy picked up the save by
striking out the last two batters for West Pittston.

Stan Yanik had two hits, while Matt Swartz, Mark Bugelholl and Trent Grove
also led the hitters.


South Wilkes-Barre 9, Mountain Top 5

WYOMING – John Nargoski fanned 11 and had two hits for South Wilkes-Barre.

Matt Hromchak tripled to plate the go-ahead run and added a single. Will
Smith had two RBI.

Ryan Beshada, Alex Bedrin, Matt Ritz, Collin Petroch, Dan Steeves and Zack
Berg had hits for Mountain Top.
