SDG&E Begins Public Safety Power Shutoffs & Urges Backcountry Residents to Continue to be Prepared
Due to elevated fire weather conditions and Santa Ana winds, San Diego Gas & Electric has initiated Public Safety Power Shutoffs in certain communities to help reduce wildfire risk and protect public safety.
Community Resource Centers will be opened in the communities impacted by a PSPS. These centers are equipped with resources to support anyone who needs it, including Wi-Fi, and phone and medical device charging.

Public Safety Power Shutoffs are approved by state regulators as an important safety tool of last resort to mitigate fire risk during dangerous weather conditions. Since Monday, the company has made calls and sent text messages and emails to approximately 24,700 customers in the backcountry who may be affected by the shutoffs this week. SDG&E's Emergency Operations Center also continues to monitor conditions 24/7 and has personnel, pre-staged materials and equipment ready to respond.
Customers who were notified should continue to be prepared to potentially be without power through Friday. SDG&E encourages customers to have an emergency plan in place, including an emergency kit prepared with important supplies.
High winds and other weather conditions also have the potential to lead to unplanned outages throughout the region, which are separate from Public Safety Power Shutoffs. Customers are encouraged to visit SDG&E's outage map at sdge.com/outages for unplanned outage details and expected restoration times.
Customers should also never approach damaged infrastructure or downed power lines and report them by calling 911 or SGD&E's call center at 800-411-7343.
