Showers, thunderstorms could relieve the dryness this weekend

The Wyoming Valley could finally see some relief in the way of rain over the weekend.

The National Weather Service indicated that it was 47 degrees as of 6:54 a.m. at the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport, with partly cloudy skies kicking off the day.

Partly sunny skies will stick around today, with a high near 71 degrees.

Clouds will move into the region tonight, with a slight chance of showers possible earlier in the evening. After midnight, a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is possible. Less than a tenth of an inch of rain is expected, and tonight’s low will be around 58 degrees.

Mostly cloudy skies will carry over into Saturday, with a chance of showers and thunderstorms possible after noon. Up to a quarter of an inch of rain is possible, with higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Saturday’s high will be near 81 degrees.

A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms is predicted for Saturday night, with less than a tenth of an inch of rain expected. Mostly cloudy skies are expected otherwise, with a low around 64 degrees.

Partly sunny skies will return on Sunday along with a chance of showers, as well as thunderstorms after 8 a.m. Sunday’s high will be near 82 degrees.

Mostly cloudy skies will follow into Sunday night, with a 30 percent chance of showers. Sunday night’s low will be around 62 degrees.
