Snow Possible For Northern Suburbs, Cold Rain For Rest Of Area
ILLINOIS — A storm system will bring widespread precipitation to the Chicago area early Friday, but, depending on where you live, you could see up to 2 inches of snow or a cold rain.
Areas in northwest Illinois, and the Rockford area, could see accumulating snow up to 2 inches, according to the National Weather Service.
Some of the northern and northwest suburbs could see a wet snow mixed with rain, especially near Elgin and DeKalb. The rest of the area will only get a cold rain, the weather service said.
The weather service said the exact location of the transition to wet snow is uncertain. There could be some travel impacts for the Friday morning commute.
While Friday will be mostly rainy, temperatures will still remain in the 40s, with a high of 46 degrees. The cold, soaking rain could bring between 1/4 to a 1/2 inch of rain to the area, according to the weather service forecast.
"A rather active weather pattern will result in on and off chances for precipitation...through the weekend," the weather service said.
Rain is also possible late Saturday, and on Sunday. A high of 46 is expected on Saturday, and a high of 45 on Sunday.
